Tourism sta favorendo la nascita di nuove e importanti opportunità: dagli investimenti infrastrutturali al turismo, con particolare attenzione alle strutture ricettive.
A Rio de Janeiro un numero crescente di piccoli imprenditori residenti nelle favelas stanno scoprendo le opportunità di business offerte dal turismo. Vengono così aperti ostelli e organizzate escursioni all’interno delle favelas, sfruttando la vista mozzafiato sulle famose spiagge di Rio o sul Cristo Redentore.
La possibilità di aprire nuove attività economiche all’interno delle favelas è favorito dalla crescente sicurezza, garantita dalla presenza, nelle zone a rischio, delle stazioni UPP ( Police Pacification Unit ), the local police stations.
