The State of Mato Grosso do Sul focuses on the exploitation of tourism resources as an engine of economic development. The positive trend is evidenced by the increased flow of tourists arriving at the airport of Campo Grande, which marked an increase of 24% in 2010.
The Brazilian company of airport infrastructure, Infraero provides interesting data on the flow of tourists arriving at airports in Brazil. Regarding the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, there was an increase of 24% of arrivals in the year 2010: 491,030 passengers in 2009 became 609,876 in 2010, with significant growth in domestic routes, , which reached 603,257 passengers during 2010. As for international flights, the figure is less meaningful in numerical terms but the increase is very interesting: in January arrivals increased of 18.8% over the previous month and a total of 39% compared to January 2010.
